PV Hosts Bellevue, Washington
April 12, 2007
The Palos Verdes Sea Kings hosted the Bellevue Washington Wolverines who were using their spring break to accomplish some in-season tuning before facing the remainder of their schedule back home. Their game against Palos Verdes was the first of a three game series against Southern California opponents. The Wolverines came in with a solid reputation after being last year’s runners-up in the State of Washington.

Their skills and patience were evident from the start as they were able to win face-offs and control the ball for significant periods. The two problems they had were penetrating the consistently aggressive Sea King defense and stopping the barrage of quality shots fired off by PV’s attack.

The Sea Kings were first to score in the contest but their lead was short-lived as the Wolverines bounced right back to return the favor on their next possession. The Sea Kings pressed on, however, and were able to carve out a 3-1 lead by the end of the first quarter. Acrobatic goals by David Scott, Nolan Semel and Jon Spangler kept the Wolverines guessing and the score doubled to 6-2 at halftime.

The long stick defenders continued their tight coverage into the second half with Matt Moen, Bennett Smith, Michael Davis and Stevie Caulfield refusing to give an inch. All contributed along with Goalie Alex Marin in executing numerous downfield clears. Bellevue was able to take advantage of a fast break and another scoring opportunity in the third quarter but they were still outscored by PV to trail
9-4.

Both Nathan Kasai and Ryan Rheingold represented themselves well in the face-off department which helped originate many of PV’s scoring chances. The Sea Kings kept the pedal to the metal during the fourth quarter and found themselves with a 14-6 victory.

Senior David Scott scored a game high five points on goals to lead Palos Verdes while at the other end of the field, senior goalie Alex Marin had 11 saves. Senior Jon Spangler had four goals on the day followed by junior Nolan Semel with three goals, junior Alex Richardson and senior Brandon Hixenbaugh both added a goal apiece. Tallying assists were senior Ryan Rheingold and junior Sammy Romer.

Palos Verdes hosted a post game Bar-B-Que attended by both teams and their families. At the end of the day, Palos Verdes wished Bellevue well for the rest of their road trip and all parted with new friends in this family known as Lacrosse.
