Palos Verdes vs. Harvard Westlake
March 4, 2008
Some thought Palos Verdes had a lot of re-building to do after losing 17 seniors from last year’s squad, but it was nothing compared to Harvard-Westlake who graduated their entire starting lineup and a total of 25 seniors. The Wolverines, who finished second in their league last year, came to the Sea King turf on Tuesday with a young team prepared to play their best and defend their 2007 record.

Palos Verdes, on the other hand, coming off a close loss at Corona Del Mar last Saturday and wanting to put the memory behind them, got going early and often in the first quarter with a total of seven goals. The PV defense, with their size and skill, were able to control the point of attack and deny the Wolverines good opportunities to score. The many face-off opportunities created by the scoring were taken advantage of by Nathan Kasai’s wins at the “X” and resulting Sea King possessions.

The pace slowed a bit after the torrid first quarter, but PV still posted three goals in both the second and third quarters and had their final tally in the fourth.

The scoring was spread over eight different players. Nolan Semel took top honors with four goals while Alex Richardson, Brandon Lim and Bobby Ecker had two apiece. Single goals were had by Andrew Pandora, Mike Macfarlane, Eric Trelenberg, and Michael Cocke. Richardson also had three assists. Goalies Matt Schladen and Rueben Vollmer both played strong games defending the net.
