Palos Verdes vs. Palisades
February 27, 2008
The Sea Kings opened the 2008 season with a convincing win over the Pacific Palisades Dolphins, their opponent in the final regular season game last year. This year’s match took place at the Palos Verdes home field and featured many new faces from a Sea King squad that graduated 17 seniors.

The first quarter was all about finding a rhythm and sizing up the competition. There were plenty of ground balls to contest as the result of sloppy passing and hard physical play that set the tone for the entire game. The only score came from a right-handed Nolan Semel shot.

The second and third periods saw the Sea Kings heat up offensively with Semel leading the way to an 8-0 lead. Palos Verdes dominated possession and was consistently set-up by Nathan Kasai with winning face-offs. The defense played aggressively as they challenged every foray by the Dolphins into the crease area, and new goalie Matt Schladen did his part with some solid saves.

The intensity continued into the fourth quarter with Palos Verdes scoring another four goals and Palisades nearly matching that with their first three goals of the day.

Leading the scoring with five goals was Semel. New players getting their first varsity goals included Brandon Lim (2), Bobby Ecker (2) and Dylan Cogan (1). Also scoring were seniors Andrew Pandora (1), and Alex Richardson (1). Richardson had six assists.

Next up, Palos Verdes travels to Orange County to meet the highly ranked Corona Del Mar Sea Kings on Saturday, March 1 at 7:00 PM.
