| Sophomore attackman Tim Andrews scored a game-high three goals to lead No. 13 La Costa Canyon to a 9-4 victory over Palos Verdes in a Southern California CIF intersectional game Saturday afternoon.
Senior middie C.J. Small added two goals and an assist to help the Mavericks (2-0) win their second straight game against a Southern Section opponent.
In a losing effort, senior attackman Alex Richardson scored two goals, sophomore middie Brandon Lim added a goal and an assist and senior attackman Sam Romer dished two assists for Palos Verdes, which fell to 3-2.
La Costa Canyon led 4-0 at the end of the first quarter, 5-2 at halftime and 8-3 going into the fourth quarter.
"We came out flat and then picked up the intensity and played hard," Palos Verdes Coach Lane Jaffe said. "They're a great team. All respect goes out to them. I think we'll get better as the season goes on, and LCC will be a tough team to beat."
